How much do custom blinds, shades, and shutters cost in Inner West Houston?

Custom window treatments typically range from under $100 to over $1,000 per window. The price depends on the product, window size, material, operating system, motorization, and number of windows, so an exact quote requires measuring the actual windows. That's why Made in the Shade Inner West Houston includes a free in-home consultation — we measure every window, show samples in your home's real Houston light, and tailor the quote to your actual project.

What window treatments are best for Houston's heat and humidity?

For Houston's long, hot, humid summers, moisture-resistant composite (faux wood) shutters and blinds resist warping and mildew, while solar and cellular shades block the intense sun and up to 99% of UV to lower your energy bills. Motorized smart shades add convenience for large windows. Many Inner West Houston homeowners combine composite shutters in humid rooms with solar or cellular shades in living areas and bedrooms.

Are you locally owned?

Yes. Made in the Shade Inner West Houston is a local, family-owned window treatment company owned by Valerie Bacerott, who personally handles the consultation, measuring, and installation. You work directly with the owner, not a call center or a big-box store. We're local, but also part of a large international brand — so you get family-business care with national buying power and warranties.

Do solar shades really lower energy bills in Houston?

Yes. Solar shades block the sun's heat and up to 99% of UV before it enters, easing the load on your AC through Houston's long cooling season. Because the AC runs most of the year here, that heat rejection can meaningfully lower your energy bill. They also protect floors, furniture, and artwork from the intense Texas sun while preserving your view.

Do your smart shades work with Alexa and Google Home?

Yes. Our motorized shades work with all major smart-home devices, including Alexa and Google Home. Schedule them to lower during the peak afternoon heat or raise with the morning light — convenient and energy-smart, even on tall, hard-to-reach windows. They're a favorite for the large windows and modern townhomes across Inner West Houston.

What areas do you serve?

Made in the Shade Inner West Houston serves Inner West Houston and surrounding areas, including Rice Military, Cottage Grove, Timbergrove, Lazybrook, Shady Acres, the Washington Corridor, the Heights, Bellaire, and the Memorial Park area. The mobile showroom comes to your home anywhere in the service area. Call (832) 788-5535 to confirm we cover your neighborhood.

The Houston Outdoor Problem and How Outdoor Shades Solve It

The Problem: In Inner West Houston, the patio, balcony, and rooftop deck are prime living space — but the intense Gulf sun, glare, and mosquitoes can drive you inside for the best hours of the day, fade your outdoor furniture, and heat the adjacent rooms. Your favorite outdoor room ends up unusable when you most want to enjoy it.

The Solution: Exterior solar screens and patio shades fix it. They block UV and radiant heat before it reaches you, drop the ambient temperature, cut glare, and add privacy — all while preserving your view — and they help keep out bugs and mosquitoes. That turns a sun-baked patio, balcony, or deck into a comfortable outdoor room you can use year-round. Manual or motorized, built for Gulf Coast sun and humidity. (Note: these provide sun, heat, glare, privacy, and bug control — they are not code-rated hurricane shutters.)

Frequently Asked Questions About Outdoor & Patio Shades in Inner West Houston

How much cooler do exterior patio shades make an outdoor space?

Exterior solar screens can drop your patio or balcony’s ambient temperature significantly by blocking UV and radiant heat before it reaches you. In Houston’s intense sun, that’s often the difference between an outdoor space you avoid midday and one you use all year.

They also cut glare, add privacy, and help keep bugs and mosquitoes out.

Will outdoor shades block my view?

No — solar-screen fabrics preserve your outward view during the day while blocking UV, heat, and glare. The openness factor sets the balance between view and shade, and we help you choose.

They also add daytime privacy on your patio or balcony.

Are these hurricane shutters?

No. Our outdoor shades, screens, and awnings provide sun, heat, glare, privacy, and bug control, but they are not code-rated hurricane or storm shutters. If you need certified hurricane protection, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
